ABOUT US
In a humble garage, with a mere 3 dream filled workers, Shiva Clothing was founded by Dolly Naidu. With the loving help and support of her husband, Siva, this small Cut, Manufacture & Trim (CMT) facility produced school skirts for a local retailer.
Steady growth made this business strong enough, that by 1994 it was able to move to a small facility in the heart of Port Shepstone. Here it established itself enough that with the now 30 workers, we were producing garments for not only South Coast, but Durban fashion houses as well.
We had gotten too big for our breeches, and had to find a facility that could accommodate our expansion. So we moved to, what is now our current, Marburg address, as a lessee of only part of the building. Here, we were able to increase our workforce by 20 to comfortably supply the CMT demands.
The next few years can be considered as the tough times. Growth was stunted by the challenging industry. But our dreams and our hearts were bigger and stronger than what the world could throw at us, and we used this slow period as the opportunity to test out our skills and fine tune our quality and mass production processes.
After pouring heart and soul into this business, in the year 2010, Dolly stepped back and her son, Preggy took over with fresh motivation and realizations that to be sustainable, the business would need to evolve into a direct supplier with a more specialized product range. One of the factors that influenced our specialization into the babywear & underwear, was the workers of the area’s familiarity with the manufacturing of these products. This aided in our growth by being able to employ over 80 local workers.
We had grown big enough to purchase the entire 1544 Berg Road facility, claiming the 1400m² space as our complete manufacturing plant, and increasing our employment to 150 workers.
Saw us realizing one of the biggest dreams: becoming a direct supplier to the Edcon Group. We started to thrive, and by 2014 our underwear division had to move to a bigger facility. This plant housed 3 lines and was manned by 50 personnel. But it didn’t stop there.
The underwear division had expanded so much; it had to move to an even bigger plant. Our lines increased to 9, and our workforce for this division alone increased to 150; making our workforce 300 strong. This year also enthused us to create our own label, KelMik Kids, inspired by the concept that “Happy Kids, are Smart Kids”. With this label we intend to enter the international market.
The direct supply was working so well for us, that in 2016 we started manufacturing our quality products for Pepkor’s Ackermans& Pep stores and 2018 Woolworths as well as PNI Enterprises and Pick and Pay.
Becoming Woolworths approved also meant we had to be SEDEX approved, and bring our manufacturing facility to a world class standard, especially in terms of baby safety for the product that leaves us.
We became the first company to create a clothing range for Dischem in the Baby Department, with a proudly made in Kwazulu Natal branding to it.
We are currently registered with Proudly South African as a babywear manufacturer, and are proud to be associated with this initiative.
Currently we are one of the largest locally produced Babywear manufacturing facilities in South Africa, providing meaningful employment to 425 people.
